Portrait of Corrado Fizzarotti in his study

I am a philosopher and writer, and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the Italian National Research Council in Pisa. My work concerns relations among humans, other living beings and the environment, alongside data work and communication in epidemiological research.

My philosophical research asks how the boundaries of moral consideration are drawn: who counts, within which relations, and how descriptions of the world shape practical judgement. I work on environmental and animal ethics, Mary Midgley, enactivism and pragmatism. The relations between individuals and systems, natural belonging and responsibility run through this work.

I received my PhD in Humanities from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2024. My dissertation examined continuity among humans, animals and the environment through Midgley, enactivism and pragmatism. In the 2025/2026 academic year I taught Environmental Ethics at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo. The self-published book Filosofia analitica e cervi grew out of that teaching experience.

A second strand concerns memory, narrative and knowledge. My engagement with Italo Calvino began during my university studies and developed into I fondovalle della memoria. It provides a way to examine what stories can do philosophically and the conditions under which thought becomes visible.

At CNR-IFC I contribute to research on risk behaviours and social vulnerability through data harmonisation and curation, research reports, editorial work and dissemination. This work calls for attention to the quality of evidence and to the forms through which research becomes intelligible to institutions and different audiences.

I also write about books, music, philosophy and culture. Contributions to magazines and public-facing projects sit alongside my academic work; Campioni e varianti gives these interests a personal editorial space. This website brings together books, publications, teaching and public events, with links between the different strands.
