A contribution to Environmental Issues, the doctoral conference held at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice on 1–3 March 2023. The programme brought together philosophical, political and educational approaches to environmental questions.
Corrado Fizzarotti’s abstract distinguishes two senses of continuity with nature. Diachronic continuity concerns the shared evolutionary history connecting our species to others; synchronic continuity concerns the ecological relationships between an individual and its environment. This distinction provides a way to examine the tension between protecting individuals and attending to ecological wholes.
Engagement with Mary Midgley and environmental pragmatism explores deliberation that acknowledges different values without erasing their tensions. This line of research continues in Continuità. The poster reproduces the conference’s general programme.
