The article examines how enactivist concepts can contribute to the debate between animal and environmental ethics. It focuses on relational value emerging from dynamic interactions between organisms and their environments, and on the difficulty of bringing individualist and holistic approaches together.

The question of agency in simple organisms informs the discussion of moral considerability beyond human beings. The paper considers implications for both individual deliberation and political decisions.
